Metropolitan Housing Access Program (MHAP)- Financial Assistance Programs
Metropolitan Housing Access Program (MHAP), is the centralized source that offers Financial Assistance to persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) residing in the District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland (Prince George, Frederick, Montgomery, Charles, and Calvert County) experiencing financial hardship. This assistance is offered through the Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Program. EFA financial assistance is supported by funding from the District of Columbia Eligible Metropolitan Area Ryan White Program. The EFA Program provides financial assistance in the following areas: first month’s rent, delinquent rent, delinquent utilities, delinquent telephone bill, moving assistance, emergency food, and emergency medication assistance. HCS is also funded through Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) and administers the Short-Term Rent, Mortgage, and Utility (STRMU) Assistance.
Eligible consumers may apply for assistance by contacting the HCS MHAP Program at (202) 667-2681 to schedule an appointment to meet with an HCS Case Manager or a community-based Case Manager/Social Worker may submit an application or referral on their behalf.
