[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Metropolitan Housing Access Program (MHAP), is the centralized source for housing services and housing information for persons living with HIV\/AIDS in Prince George\u2019s County, MD. MHAP offers financial assistance and Housing Information & Referral Services (HIRS) for eligible DC residents.<\/p>\n

Financial Assistance Programs for HIV+ Prince George\u2019s County, MD Residents<\/strong><\/p>\n

HCS provides financial assistance to persons living with HIV\/AIDS (PLWH) who are experiencing financial hardship. This assistance is offered through the Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Program and the Short Term Rental, Mortgage, and Utility (STRMU) Program. Financial assistance can be provided to help with housing related costs such as delinquent rent, mortgage and utility\/telephone bills, as well as first month’s rent, and moving costs. Additionally, financial assistance can be provided for emergency food and emergency medication costs.<\/p>\n

The Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Program application allows community case managers\/social workers to apply for financial assistance on behalf of a person living with HIV\/AIDS. EFA financial assistance is supported by Ryan White Program funding. The EFA Program provides financial assistance in the following areas: first month’s rent, delinquent rent, delinquent utilities, delinquent telephone bills, moving assistance, emergency food, and emergency medication assistance. PLWH may apply for the EFA Program by contacting the HCS MHAP Program at 202-667-2681 to schedule an appointment with an HCS Case Manager or a community based Case Manager\/Social Worker may submit an EFA Program application on their behalf.<\/p>\n

The MHAP Program allows persons living with HIV (PLWH) to apply for financial assistance offered through the Short Term Rental, Mortgage, and Utility (STRMU) Program. STRMU can provide financial assistance in the following areas: delinquent rent, delinquent utilities, and delinquent mortgage.<\/p>\n

If you are HIV+ and would like to apply for the STRMU Program, please contact the MHAP Program at 202-667-2681 to be screened for program eligibility and to schedule an application appointment.<\/strong>\u00a0 Community based case managers\/social workers may also submit a MHAP HOPWA PROGRAM SERVICES REFERRAL FORM<\/a> on behalf of their client.\u00a0 Upon receipt of the referral form, HCS will contact the client to screen for basic program eligibility and, as appropriate, schedule the client for an appointment to apply for STRMU financial assistance.<\/p>\n

Persons living with HIV who are experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, foreclosure, poor housing conditions, or other housing related problems may be referred to the Housing Counseling Services’ Metropolitan Housing Assistance Program (MHAP) for housing services. MHAP staff will assist HOPWA eligible households develop a plan to respond to housing barriers and explore housing options. Assistance may include: referrals to emergency, transitional housing programs; housing search counseling, budgeting and credit counseling, tenancy rights and responsibilities counseling, and referrals to other housing related programs\/services.<\/p>\n

Additionally, all housing consumers are encouraged to utilize the wide array of housing services at HCS. Aside from specialized services for people living with HIV\/AIDS, HCS a wide variety of free counseling, training, and technical assistance to home buyers, homeowners, tenants, and homeless persons. Please call a MHAP specialist at 202-667-2681<\/strong> to learn more about the services at HCS. If you have a housing related issue, HCS staff may also refer you to other organizations for assistance.<\/p>\n
